The rise of the self-service technology market has made it more important than ever for companies to easily get the data they need to make critical decisions; however, access to high-quality, trusted location data has been elusive. In fact, a 2017 report from Forrester said that nearly 35 percent of respondents are challenged with inaccurate location data.
Now, thanks to a partnership between Foursquare and Amazon, Amazon Web Services (AWS) customers are able to quickly subscribe to the industry’s most accurate location data within their AWS account.
Starting today, Foursquare’s Places Data plus additional location-based data, are all available for purchase directly via the AWS Data Exchange. These datasets can help solve a myriad of use cases, including real estate site selection, municipal planning, and population trend analysis.
All data on the AWS Data Exchange follows Foursquare policies and guidelines as it relates to privacy; we apply consumer safeguards and location trails are never shared or sold. Additionally, AWS has its own privacy requirements for participation in the exchange. At Foursquare, we believe that data is a privilege and we act accordingly.
Any purchased dataset will be immediately deployed to a desired S3 bucket and can then be utilized across Amazon’s powerful suite of cloud products. Transactions are handled via an existing Amazon account—so there’s no need to worry about processing invoices, payment, or even data ingestion.
A Powerful Partnership
Accurate location data provided by Foursquare and purchased via the AWS Data Exchange ensures that product and marketing strategies are rooted in data that’s been validated by Foursquare’s core visit detection technology, Pilgrim, which adheres to the highest standards of data integrity and consumer privacy. This new partnership provides accessibility, accuracy, scale, and coverage that is unmatched in the self-service data ecosystem. Stephen Orban, General Manager of AWS Data Exchange adds, “As our customers continue to move to the cloud, they’re looking for cloud native ways to simplify the way they find and acquire data from Foursquare. We are excited to see the innovation made possible by having Foursquare’s datasets available on the AWS Data Exchange to feed our mutual customers’ applications, analytics, and machine learning models running on AWS.”
Foursquare’s AWS Data Exchange offering includes Places Data plus a selection of foot traffic-powered datasets. Places Data gives companies access to venues data for a variety of regions, countries, and designated market areas (DMAs), including Latin America, Asia-Pacific, Europe, and the United States. Foursquare’s places database encompasses 60 million commercial venues in 190 countries and 50 territories, and is the most up-to-date dataset available in the market. Foursquare also offers behavior-based data sets that enable companies to unlock chain-level insights, based on the movements of 100 million U.S. devices. Track foot traffic to the top chains—broken down by DMA—to inform media targeting and optimization strategies as well as to surface consumer trends.
Putting Data to Work
Foursquare data can be used in a variety of ways, from enhancing existing datasets to conducting business intelligence. Here are some examples of how customers take advantage of Foursquare’s high-quality datasets:
- Strengthening data models. A real estate company is better informed about site selection for a new commercial or residential building by leveraging venues and foot traffic data as valuable inputs in models.
- Enriching a venue database. A municipality combines Census data, traffic data, and Foursquare places data to develop a transportation strategy and micro-mobility initiatives, both of which demand the highest level of location information accuracy.
- Understanding consumer behavior. A consumer packaged goods company utilizes Foursquare anonymized audience data to better understand what percentage of their overall visitors are loyalists versus one-time shoppers.
