“Maintaining the Momentum: Driving Change Forward”

On August 31, Femmesquare and FTW members, and Foursquare employees gathered for a panel discussion from a few of Foursquare’s female executives who discussed navigating their careers, their vision for the company’s growth, and how they’re continuously learning through a growth mindset. Co-hosted by Femmesquare and Foursquare Technical Women (FTW), “Maintaining the Momentum: Driving Change Forward” was open for all employees to attend.

“Our programming always aims to educate our workforce, even those outside of our ERG’s membership,” said Uswah Shabbir, Femmesquare Co-Lead and Senior Business Operations Associate at Foursquare. “With more than a third of our executives made up of women, these accomplished panelists’ perspectives are what’s helping drive change here at FSQ and hearing their honest career advice was insightful.”

One of the biggest takeaways from the virtual event was the practice of implementing a growth mindset – not only in your day-to-day work, but with respect to your career as a whole. Placing yourself in uncomfortable situations by tackling new projects and requesting continuous feedback from your managers and colleagues allows you to learn and grow professionally. Across the board, panelists discussed exuding fearlessness when approaching new situations and opportunities as a key driver for their success.

By applying this approach to their work, each of our executives discussed how they lead their respective organizations in parallel with other functions. In leading their groups, these executives also talked about how they make every decision, both low and high impact, with an emphasis on incorporating emotional intelligence. Regardless of one’s role at the company, the panelists also suggested that making results-oriented decisions and prioritizing your work according to impact is instrumental in moving the needle within your teams and the company at large.

Our executives left us off with where they’d be a mayor with the most “check ins” on Foursquare’s Swarm app, including one of New York’s many Trader Joes, a relaxing golf club, and a cherished hometown beach.
