Category Mapping

This sheet shows a mapping of the categories in the legacy Factual Places Taxonomy to the new Foursquare Places categories. Because there are several cases in which a Factual category is matched to multiple integrated categories, it is impossible to provide a 1-to-1 mapping in which the single mapped Foursquare category is the best match.

The following column filters are meant to provide a way of assessing what matches are best suited to different use cases:

• filter for single_match == TRUE to get a one-to-one mapping from Factual ⇒ Foursquare (excludes multiple matches, and picks the parent of multiple matches for the sake of having a 1-to-1 mapping). This prioritizes having one-to-one completeness over providing best matches.

• filter for best_match == TRUE to get a one-to-(one or more) mapping from Factual ⇒ Foursquare to provide the best matched Integrated category or Foursquare categories. This prioritizes providing best matches over one-to-one completeness.

• filter for multiple_match == TRUE to see the cases in which a Factual category match is broken out into more than one Foursquare categories.
